AFCAT - AIR FORCE COMMON ADMISSION TEST

What is AFCAT?
AFCAT stands for Air Force Common Admission Test. For all entries for joining Air Force other than NDA and CDSE and for all branches, candidates have to undergo the AFCAT. The test is conducted twice a year in February and September. Advertisements inviting applications for AFCAT are out in June and December. Candidates are to apply as per the advertisement. The test is conducted all across India by the Indian Air Force.

This test is conducted by the Indian Air Force for selection of officers in all branches of the IAF (except medical and dental) viz. Flying Branch (Short Service Commission only), Technical Branch (Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission) and Ground Duty Branch (Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission).

What are the eligibility criteria for AFCAT?

What is the scheme of exam and syllabus for AFCAT?

Duration of AFCAT is two hours . The AFCAT Question Paper will have 100 questions. It is an objective test and the scheme of syllabus contains General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, Reasoning & Military Aptitude. All questions will be of three marks each. For every correct answer the candidate will get three marks and for every wrong answer one mark will be deducted under negative marking. Each Question Paper will have questions from the following topics:-

(a) General Awareness- History, Sports, Geography, Environment, Civics, Basic Science, Defence, Art, Culture, Current Affairs, Politics etc.

(b) Verbal Ability in English - Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Synonyms, Antonyms and Testing of Vocabulary.

(c) Numerical Ability - Decimal Fraction, Simplification, Average, Profit & loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion and Simple interest.

(d) Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test - Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability.

NCC (SPL) ENTRY MEN

No written test is conducted for this entry. On receipt of advertisement application form is required to be submitted to the NCC group headquarters through NCC Battalion from where NCC 'C' cert is passed. Interview is conducted by NCC group headquarters. Selected candidates are called for Service Selection Board (SSB)Interview. Eligibility criteria is given below.

OFFICERS TRAINING ACADEMY ( NON TECHNICAL MEN )

Candidates are required to qualify in UPSC written examination i.e. CDS examination. The exam consists of three papers i.e Maths, English and GK of 100 marks each. It is a common examination for Indian Military Academy (IMA)and Officers Training Academy (OTA) . While for IMA all three papers are compulsory, for OTA , Maths paper is not compulsory.
